Things To Do Before Listing Your Home For Sale

Are you thinking about selling your house? Do you want to make sure that your house sells as quickly as possible? Selling a house isn't very difficult, but there are still things that you need to remember to do so that your house sells as quickly as possible. Before you talk to a real estate agent (like those at Re/Max River & Sea) about listing your home for sale, here are some things that you should take care of:

Painting: If it's been a while since you had your house repainted, now is a good time to do so. If you can't afford to have both your interior and exterior painted, do the exterior first. The outside of your house is what people will obviously see first when they're driving by. If they see paint that is peeling or cracked, they might not want to stop and investigate further. A fresh coat of paint before listing your home for sale will help convince more people that your house is worth a second look. If you can afford to do so, you should also consider painting at least your living room or kitchen. Clean and freshly painted living spaces will help to convey that your house is in good condition.

Decluttering: When people look at a home for sale, they want to be able to imagine their couch, chairs, and other belongings in that space. If your house is crowded with knickknacks, they'll have a hard time imagining anything. Start cleaning out your house now before the real estate agent comes over to take pictures. Large pieces of furniture can stay, but your teapot collection or family pictures should be taken down and stored. Instead of keeping these things in your attic or utility room, it would probably be best if you moved as many things as possible to a local storage unit.

Landscaping: Make sure to keep your lawn mowed while you're waiting for a buyer. If you're selling during spring or summer, you may want to take a trip to your local garden center for some inexpensive flowers to plant in any flower beds that are in front of your house. Even if you've never done any gardening before, flowers can add to the curb appeal of a house and make it more attractive.  Marigolds, snapdragons, and petunias are usually inexpensive plants that are hardy and often need little more than regular watering once they've been planted. Your local garden center employees can give you planting and care instructions for your area.
